AC cleaning is not the same as disinfection: service names, products and performance boundaries

Contents

Cleaning and disinfection are not the same. Cleaning focuses on removing dirt; if the service also includes treatment against microorganisms, confirm the product, applicable parts, operating conditions and the basis for any claims. A standard AC cleaning service is not the same as indoor air testing, treatment or a sterile certification.

First ask what the service actually does

Ask what parts will be cleaned, whether cleaning or disinfecting products will be used, how electrical components and materials will be protected, and what restoration and testing steps will be carried out. The equipment name or high-temperature wording is not proof that all surfaces are suitable or that all microorganisms have been removed.

Do not spray the unit yourself.

Residents should not spray bleach, mist disinfectant, scented spray or store-bought foam directly into the unit. The manufacturer has already warned that improper cleaning products may damage components and cause water leakage; words like special-purpose or neutral cannot replace model identification, product labelling and material compatibility assessment.

Odour and black spots are not a test

Visible dirt and odours should be traced to their source; colour alone cannot determine the type of bacteria or whether levels are excessive. If specific testing is needed, first confirm the sampling location, method and scope of interpretation; general indoor air indicators cannot be directly applied to internal parts or photos.

Disinfection service is not needed every time

Whether extra treatment is needed should be confirmed based on the actual issue and the manufacturer’s and product requirements, not automatically decided by humidity, pets at home or a particular season. If you feel unwell, seek medical advice separately; cleaning the unit cannot replace diagnosis or treatment.

Check scope and records on acceptance

Keep the quotation, actual cleaning scope, product information and completion record, as well as any faults that still need checking. Do not use fragrance, cleaner wastewater turning clear, or a one-line sterilisation guarantee to promise a fully sterile home, allergy improvement, longer unit life, or a fixed energy-saving result.
