AC TOOL

Self-check for AC faults and repair cost reference

Use non-cooling, dripping, unusual noise, icing, and tripping faults for an initial safety triage, and see the HK$500 inspection fee and reference prices for confirmed parts.

Symptoms can only help with initial sorting and cannot diagnose parts. The tool first identifies safety warnings, then organises possible causes and inspection fees; only parts already confirmed by a technician will have the corresponding reference price shown.

First check safety: do any of the following apply?

Will only be passed to the technician as-is for reference; this tool will not match brand fault codes

Only choose this after the technician has inspected and confirmed the part; this tool will not infer parts based on the situation

Calculation method

  1. If there is a burning smell, smoke, a tripped breaker, repeated tripping, or water near electrical parts, the priority is to stop use and arrange professional inspection; no instructions will be provided for restarting, dismantling, or topping up refrigerant yourself.
  2. General symptoms list only possible causes and safety observations; the original fault code will be included in the enquiry, and no automatic fault-code interpretation will be given for unverified brands/models.
  3. HK$500 is the same inspection/visit fee, not the total repair cost; it is still charged even if no repair is carried out, and can be deducted from the repair fee if you agree to repair. Final arrangement will be confirmed first.
  4. Parts prices are based on the reference price on this site for parts plus basic installation, and apply only to parts confirmed by the technician as needing replacement. Different models, stock availability and extra work must be checked separately; do not add the parts price and inspection fee together as the total price.
  5. Repairs do not include warranty. An enquiry or submitted form does not mean a booking has been confirmed; the formal quotation is subject to inspection and mutual confirmation of scope.

Frequently asked questions

Does an air conditioner that is not cooling always need refrigerant?
No. Settings, airflow, heat dissipation or other faults may affect cooling. The cause must be checked first; do not simply sell refrigerant top-up just because it is not cooling.
Is the self-check result a formal repair quotation?
No. HK$500 is the inspection/attendance fee; the parts reference price applies only when the part has been confirmed and the model verified. The final repair price must be confirmed after inspection.
Can I keep restarting and testing it myself after the breaker trips?
Do not keep restarting or resetting a tripped breaker, and do not open the appliance for inspection. Stop using it and have a qualified person confirm it is safe. If there is smoke, fire, or immediate danger, leave the area first and call 999 for help.
