AC TOOL
AC cleaning need assessment
Based on the last deep-cleaning time, daily usage, pets, cooking fumes, dust, and any abnormal conditions, determine whether routine maintenance, a cleaning assessment, or an inspection should be arranged first.
Cleaning depends on the usage environment and the condition of the unit, not simply the month. If there is water dripping, unusual odour or reduced cooling, first distinguish between a fault and dust build-up; do not assume cleaning alone will solve it.

Calculation method
- This tool’s routing rules are not for hygiene checks or fault diagnosis. Unusual smells, dripping, or reduced cooling should be inspected by a technician first to identify the cause.
- If it has been 12 months or you are not sure when the last deep cleaning was, evaluation is recommended. If it runs 8 hours or more per day, or if there are pets, cooking fumes or dust, evaluation can be considered earlier after 6 months. This is only a reminder threshold for the tool, not a mandatory cleaning cycle.
- Routine dust filter maintenance and deep cleaning should be handled separately, following the original manufacturer's instructions; the Consumer Council's summer dust filter and annual pre-summer deep cleaning recommendations are for general reference only and do not apply on the same schedule to every site.
- If there is a burning smell, smoke, tripped breaker or water close to electrical parts, stop using it and arrange a professional inspection; do not dismantle the unit yourself to test the result.
Frequently asked questions
- If there is a smell, will AC cleaning definitely solve it?
- No. Odours can have different causes. If operation is abnormal, stop using it and arrange an inspection. A burning smell or smoke should be dealt with as a safety issue first; do not book cleaning only.
- Do pet owners have to clean the AC every six months?
- No. Pets are only one factor for early assessment. The dust filter, dust buildup, usage hours, and actual condition of the unit still need to be checked, and the reminder threshold does not mean a service must be purchased.
