AC GUIDES

Not sure whether to ask about cleaning, repair or installation? A guide to choosing the right one

Contents

You do not need to know the fault name before making an enquiry. The most important thing is to explain what you see, when it happens and whether there are any safety risks, then clarify the boundaries between cleaning, repair and installation work; this is not a tool for diagnosing based on symptoms alone.

If there is visible dust buildup and it is for routine maintenance, you may first enquire about a cleaning assessment

If the dust filter or air outlets are dusty, or if you are not sure when the inside of the unit was last cleaned, you can provide the model, usage and odour situation to enquire about routine maintenance or deep cleaning needs. Cleaning the dust filter does not mean the inside of the unit has been cleaned; the actual parts covered must be confirmed.

Musty smell, weak airflow or dripping water may be related to dirt, but other causes are also possible. Do not assume that one symptom means the unit will definitely be fixed after cleaning; indoor cleaning does not automatically include the outdoor unit, parts replacement or re-piping.

Cannot operate normally or keeps having faults: explain the repair needs.

If it cannot start, shows a fault light, keeps stopping, makes abnormal rubbing sounds, or still has problems after cleaning, please provide inspection details. Insufficient cooling also does not mean refrigerant should be added immediately; first check the settings and other clues.

If there is a burning smell, smoke, a tripped breaker, icing, or severe water leakage, stop using the unit first. Do not repeatedly restart it or dismantle it yourself; if there is immediate danger, stay away and seek help. Do not treat a general customer service enquiry as emergency rescue.

Moving, replacement and new equipment are installation assessments

If you want to replace an old unit, move its position or add a new AC, you need to confirm the model, room load, indoor/outdoor locations, piping and power supply. A location that worked for the old unit does not mean the same specifications and installation will apply to the new one.

A cleaning quotation cannot replace quotations for removal of old units, support, piping or electrical works. Basic installation and extra work should be clearly distinguished; whether high-level equipment or other arrangements are needed depends on the site, not just whether it is a split-type or window unit.

If unsure, provide the full symptoms first; do not guess the parts.

Provide the brand and model, quantity, overall location, when the problem occurs, and records of the most recent cleaning or works. You can say directly, 'water starts dripping from the right side after running for a while,' which is more useful than guessing which part is broken.

A single unit may have different needs, and not every air-conditioning unit has to do the same work. First confirm the assessment, service scope and quotation before booking; preliminary advice from customer service and photos do not mean all hidden faults have already been confirmed.

  • Dust buildup and maintenance: enquire about cleaning scope
  • Cannot operate normally: provide the symptoms for inspection.
  • Moving, replacement or new installation: check the installation conditions
  • Cause unknown: explain the symptoms and safety risks first.

Common questions

If I don't know the cause, can I ask customer service directly?

Yes. Please provide the model, a full view, and the specific symptom; you do not need to guess the parts yourself. If there are dangerous symptoms, stop using it first; the initial information helps with arrangement and does not mean a remote diagnosis has already been made.

Can the same unit need cleaning and repair at the same time?

Different jobs may be needed, but the scope and fee should be kept separate. Cleaning does not automatically include parts replacement, refrigerant, or installation work; any additional work must be confirmed first.

Reference sources and applicable scope

This article provides a preliminary guide only and does not replace an on-site diagnosis. Original manufacturer functions and operation apply only to the corresponding model; please refer to your own unit's manual. For fixed electrical installations, inspection should be arranged by a registered electrical contractor.
