How to check temperatures in Hong Kong 18 District? Monthly averages, station differences and AC use
Contents
ViewFor temperatures in 18 District, Hong Kong, distinguish between real-time station readings, conditions in a specific year and long-term climate averages. One Observatory monthly average cannot represent every unit in every district. AC use depends on the actual indoor environment, and cleaning depends on the unit condition, not on the month to determine whether it must be cheaper.
Average monthly temperature
The Hong Kong Observatory's climate averages can help understand seasonal changes, but they are not real-time weather or a forecast. Conditions vary by station, floor level, sunshine and indoor heat sources, so one set of data cannot represent the actual situation across all districts in Hong Kong or be the only basis for choosing an air conditioner.
Below are the monthly average temperatures recorded by the observatory station from 1991 to 2020, in degrees Celsius; these are not data already recorded in 2026, nor are they separate averages for each district in 18:
January: 16.5°C
February: 17.1°C
March: 19.5°C
April: 23.0°C
May: 26.3°C
June: 28.3°C
July: 28.9°C
August: 28.7°C
September: 27.9°C
October: 25.7°C
November: 22.2°C
December: 18.2°C
The annual average for this climate baseline is 23.5°C. The observation period of the data must be kept; do not say it has been updated just by replacing the historical year with 2026, and do not use it to estimate an individual household's electricity bill.
Which areas are hotter?
Readings vary by district and station due to terrain, sea breeze, sunlight and time of day; without a like-for-like comparison over the same period, we do not list a fixed ranking of the hottest districts. When arranging AC work, assess the actual heat load and on-site needs.
During mosquito-prone months
Mosquito activity is usually affected by temperature and humidity. In general, mosquitoes are more active in warm and humid seasons, so it is recommended to strengthen home mosquito prevention measures.
AC season
Whether to turn on the AC depends on the actual temperature and humidity, comfort and health needs, not a fixed April-to-October rule for every household. A standard circulating AC does not replace fresh-air ventilation, and safety needs during extreme heat should not be ignored for the sake of saving energy.
AC cleaning month
Cleaning is arranged according to the manual, operating hours, dirt buildup and any abnormalities; allowing time before increased usage may be more convenient, but there is no single best spring or autumn month that applies to all models, and off-peak periods are not guaranteed to be smoother.
When checking temperature, first confirm the station, period and data type. For maintenance enquiries, please provide the model, hours of use and the fault. Weather data, usage decisions and service quotes are different information, and should not be combined into a forecast of discounts for 18 District across Hong Kong.

If cleaning or inspection is required, first confirm the indoor and outdoor units, drainage, site protection and scope of extra works. The price is subject to the current price list and confirmed quotation, and a month's temperature is not used to guarantee the equipment's performance.
