Need to drill holes for AC installation? Residents should first confirm the location, piping and scope of works

Contents

Whether AC installation requires drilling holes depends on the piping, location, existing openings and equipment requirements. Wall piping and structure cannot be ruled out by visual inspection alone, and residents should not try drilling themselves; first have suitable personnel confirm the workable location, property arrangements and scope of works.

Key points for assessment before drilling

The following items should be provided by the resident and confirmed with the installer; they are not DIY instructions for drilling through a wall.

Unit position: assess according to the model's installation spacing, air inlet/outlet, maintenance access and site conditions; there is no universal rule of one-third of the indoor height.

Piping and drainage: first explain the indoor and outdoor unit locations and the existing holes, so the installer can confirm whether the piping route, drainage and openings are feasible. Do not decide based only on the indoor unit's visible position.

Wall and piping: a suitable person should assess the wall, existing wiring and plumbing, and site constraints, and verify related information when needed. Residents should not drill, enlarge holes or penetrate an unknown wall on their own.

Construction and restoration: hole size, sealing, fixing, drainage and power supply are all confirmed according to the model and site requirements. Any extra work and charges will be explained first; bringing in a new power supply is not included in standard installation.

for AC drilling holes Notes

There are several important points to note during air conditioner installation and drilling:

On-site information: provide photos of the safe-to-photograph installation position, existing pipework and wall surface, and explain the property's working hours or management requirements; whether the work can actually be carried out still requires assessment.

Hidden pipework: the absence of visible trunking does not mean there are no wires or water pipes inside the wall. Do not drill small holes to test it yourself, and do not work on walls you cannot confirm. Let the right professionals handle it.

Protection and limitations: Dust, wastewater, noise and high-level arrangements must be assessed by the contractor. Masks or tape cannot replace confirmation of structural, piping and electrical safety. Where relevant statutory or property requirements apply, they must be verified separately; this article does not make a general permit determination.

Before booking, explain the location and existing opening, then confirm whether drilling, extra work and restoration are required. Residents should not drill or connect power by themselves first; installation should be handled by suitable personnel based on the model and the site.
