AC TIPS & ADVICE

The outside of the air conditioner is clean, but does the inside need cleaning? First check the dirt buildup and operating condition

A clean casing does not mean the fan wheel, evaporator and drain pan are clean, but it also does not directly mean the inside is mouldy or causing illness. Residents should not dismantle the unit just for inspection; record visible stains, odours and operational abnormalities and arrange an appropriate assessment.

Moisture inside the unit can encourage mould growth

Cooling may form condensation on the evaporator, and accumulated dust plus persistent dampness will affect cleaning needs. Drainage condition, source of contamination and the actual usage environment all need to be checked; do not describe every unit as inevitably producing large amounts of mould.

Equipment stains cannot be used for medical diagnosis

Seeing stains or smelling odours does not confirm a specific type of germ, and it certainly cannot prove that a family member's cough, eczema, or asthma was caused by the AC. Physical symptoms should be assessed by a medical professional. Cleaning is not a treatment or a guarantee of disease prevention.

Simple routine checks and mould-prevention tips

Only inspect from a safe position, and do not put hands, mobile phones, or tools into the air outlet; smell alone cannot determine the depth of contamination. Use the built-in drying or cleaning function according to the manufacturer’s procedure, and do not apply a 20-minute fan setting as a universal anti-mould solution for all models.

Deep-seated dirt is hard to remove by yourself

General household cleaning is limited to washing the filter and wiping the outer casing. However, mould mainly accumulates deep inside the structurally complex evaporator fins, blower wheel and drain pan. Ordinary people lack the tools to dismantle the unit and professional cleaning agents; forced cleaning can easily damage electronic components, and cannot thoroughly remove accumulated biofilm and stubborn dirt.

Find professional help

Internal cleaning requires assessment of materials, dirt build-up, electrical protection, and wastewater collection, and whether any existing faults still require repair. Product or sterilising-agent names are not proof of sterility, no damage, or health protection, and we do not promise to eliminate allergens or extend any specific service life.

Filter cleaning, exterior cleaning and internal cleaning should be handled separately according to the actual situation, not by dismantling and washing because you see black spots. After maintenance, record the airflow and drainage performance; if there is any abnormality, follow up. A clean-looking exterior is not proof of air safety.
