AC cleaning arrangements for sensitive users: filter specifications and environmental preparation limits
Contents
If someone at home is sensitive to the environment, AC maintenance can be included in the cleaning schedule, but symptoms alone cannot prove the air conditioner is the cause, and cleaning cannot be promised to improve an illness. Medical assessment should be handled separately from equipment, dust, and moisture issues.
First confirm the original filter specification
Check your own model and filter material name, and distinguish between washable dust filters, deodorising filters and other special filter materials. Do not cut, thicken or replace them with HEPA filters not approved by the original manufacturer, and do not interpret the word 'high-efficiency' as meaning the unit is definitely suitable or can remove all allergens.
Record where dust buildup and dampness are found
Check visible stains, indoor leakage, condensation and other sources of dust from a safe position, and record when the odour appears. Black spots or smells cannot confirm the type of microorganisms or whether levels are above standard; if testing is needed, first clarify the scope of sampling and interpretation, and do not use AC cleaning as a substitute for indoor air testing.
State the parts and supplies in the cleaning quotation
Tell the service provider the model, unit condition and any special product details that need confirmation, and ask about the actual scope of dismantling and cleaning, surrounding protection, restoration and testing. Do not spray disinfectant, essential oils or scented products into the unit yourself, and do not judge cleaning results by scent.
Environmental arrangements other than cleaning
Handle visible dust and moisture problems at home according to the actual situation, while ventilation must also take weather and site safety into account. In general, indoor AC airflow should not be assumed to bring in outdoor fresh air automatically; whether there is a fresh-air function must be checked against the specific model and system.
Do not judge AC cleaning by how you feel physically.
Acceptance should focus on the actual parts cleaned, reinstalled, drainage and test-run records. If you still have persistent allergies, coughing or other discomfort, seek medical advice. Do not replace diagnosis with the service provider’s experience, and do not treat the absence of immediate symptoms as proof that the whole home is free from contamination.
