Does AC cleaning include ducting and refrigerant? Check item by item instead of assuming it is all included
Contents
AC cleaning usually needs to be confirmed by unit type and components, and does not mean ductwork, refrigerant inspection, or all repairs are included. Before quoting, explain the equipment and any existing faults, and ask clearly what is included item by item. There is no need for residents to dismantle the unit or measure refrigerant first.
Why is regular air-conditioner cleaning necessary?
- Dirt buildup: cleaning removes dirt within scope, while airflow and cooling performance are still affected by the equipment and other factors.
- Energy: cleaning does not guarantee a fixed electricity-saving amount. Actual electricity consumption should be compared under the same usage conditions and with records.
- Age: maintenance is not renovation, and it does not guarantee a longer service life or prevent faults.
- Environment: cleaning is not air or pathogen testing, so it cannot guarantee disease prevention or sterility.
- Cost: Cleaning, fault diagnosis and repairs are confirmed separately. One cleaning service does not guarantee all future expenses will be saved.
Itemised checklist
1. Filter cleaning
Residents should only remove filters that the manual allows users to handle and that are safe to touch; do not remove the casing or reach the filter from a height.
Whether the filter media can be washed, what products to use and how to dry it should follow the model manual; do not soak every filter by default.
The specification, availability and replacement cost of damaged filter material should be confirmed first; do not assume cleaning includes a new filter material.
2. Cleaning the evaporator and condenser
The heat exchanger and areas near the internal electrical controls should be assessed by suitable personnel according to the model. Residents should not open, spray, scrub or rinse them themselves. Confirm which parts will be cleaned and the wastewater protection measures; do not treat 'special' chemicals as a general DIY allowance.
3. Fan and duct inspection
First confirm whether the blower wheel or fan needs cleaning or dismantling; residents should not reach in or insert tools into the air outlet to judge.
Duct cleaning and internal unit cleaning are different scopes. If a suspended ceiling, access opening or special equipment is involved, separate assessment is required; do not assume every home AC has the same type of ducting.
Should refrigerant and leak testing be checked separately?
A properly sealed system does not need regular refrigerant top-ups. If inspection confirms a leak, assess the leak point and repair first rather than only topping up; refrigerant work is not an automatic part of cleaning.
Whether measurement or leak testing is needed should be judged by the appropriate person based on symptoms; a single pressure reading cannot prove the system is completely leak-free, and residents should not connect gauges or open refrigerant pipes themselves.
5. System testing and performance evaluation
Restoration and test-running of the equipment will be arranged by the service staff; if there was an existing fault, state it first, and do not repeatedly power it on before safety is confirmed.
Check the items handled and the issues still to follow up, and keep the service record. Do not treat cooling speed as proof that all parts are healthy.
Choosing a professional cleaning service
- Experience and information: Ask about experience with the relevant model and the actual work arrangement; certification names must be verifiable and cannot be judged by vague labels alone.
- Cleaning Method: Confirm whether the cleaning agents and methods used by the service provider are safe and effective.
- Service scope: understand the service scope, including whether maintenance and repair services are provided.
- Transparent pricing: Choose a provider that offers clear quotes and no hidden fees.
Find professional help
Compare each service item one by one; it is clearer than simply asking whether everything is included. Cleaning cannot replace all fault diagnosis, duct work or refrigerant repairs, and no health results are guaranteed.
