Complete Guide to AC Anti-Mould Care: Tips to Protect Your Family’s Health

Contents

Mould prevention and maintenance should pay attention to dirt build-up, drainage and sources of dampness; it is not enough to simply spray mould-prevention products regularly. Filter cleaning and internal cleaning should be handled separately, and washing the unit is not a promise of longer life or of keeping family members from getting sick.

Why should the air conditioner be cleaned to prevent mould?

We need to understand why mould develops in an AC. During operation, an AC produces condensation water. If water accumulates in the drainage system, mould may develop, and over time this may affect the AC's performance.

Importance of regular cleaning

Regular AC cleaning can remove accumulated dust and dirt. In addition, a clean AC unit runs more smoothly and helps maintain the unit's operating condition.

Steps for AC Anti-Mould Cleaning

1. Power-off and preparation

First distinguish the filter maintenance allowed by the manufacturer from the internal procedures handled by service staff. Residents should not buy tools and dismantle the unit themselves for mould prevention, and cutting off power does not mean all operations are safe.

2. Clean the filter

Only dismantle and clean the filter according to the manual. First confirm whether it is washable, then switch off the unit and isolate the power as required. Reinstall it only after it is completely dry. Do not remove casings that need tools to open just to clean the filter.

3. Clean the inside of the air conditioner

Internal cleaning of the fins, blower wheel, and drain pan will be assessed by service staff based on the materials, electrical protection, and waste-water collection. Residents should not spray or rinse with cleaning agents themselves.

4. Anti-mould treatment

Do not spray anti-mould products into the unit yourself. Product effectiveness depends on the applicable scope and test conditions; the name alone does not guarantee antibacterial performance. Even if treated, that does not replace fixing persistent dampness or drainage problems.

5. Clean the outdoor unit

Whether the outdoor unit needs cleaning and can be cleaned safely must be assessed separately based on access position, fins, electrical parts, and support. Residents should not use a hose to rinse it or lean out of the window.

6. Check the drainage system

Drainage inspection will be arranged by service personnel; residents should not remove the pipe or pour in water to test drainage. Record any dripping, standing water and existing issues for reference.

Handle dirt buildup, dampness and drainage according to the unit condition; cleaning and faults should be confirmed separately. We do not promise to remove all microorganisms, protect family health, or keep the room odor-free at all times.
