Common AC cleaning questions and proper maintenance

Contents

An air conditioner is indispensable in homes and offices, yet many people know little about cleaning and maintenance. This may lead to reduced performance and even affect indoor air quality. This article answers common questions about AC cleaning and helps readers better understand the importance and proper methods of air conditioner cleaning.

1. Why do you need regular AC cleaning?

During operation, an air conditioner draws in dust and moisture from the air. Regularly cleaning the filter and fins helps maintain operating efficiency.

2. How often should AC cleaning be done?

Decide according to the manual, hours of use, and actual dust. It is not always once a year, or every three to six months just because there are pets. Filter cleaning and internal unit cleaning are not the same frequency.

3. How to clean an AC properly?

First distinguish between filter maintenance allowed for residents and internal cleaning by service staff. Do not dismantle the unit yourself based on the outline below:

  • Switch off the power: Before cleaning, be sure to switch off the air conditioner for safety.
  • Follow the model manual for the filter. Only washable filters may be cleaned and reinstalled after drying completely; do not apply plain water or neutral detergent to all filter media.
  • Cleaning of the internal heat sink, fan wheel and drain pan is handled by the service staff, not by residents spraying chemicals and rinsing with water. Routine maintenance only cleans washable filters and the exterior according to the manual; if abnormalities continue, assess the fault instead of continuing to spray and rinse.
  • Reinstall: once all parts are dry, reinstall the filter and other components, then switch on the power for testing.

4. Are natural cleaners effective?

Natural does not mean suitable for the unit. Do not spray evaporator fins or the inside of the unit with white vinegar, baking soda or mixed cleaners on your own; the choice should depend on the model and product compatibility information, not on how dirty it looks or on using a household chemical as a substitute.

5. The need for professional AC cleaning services

Internal cleaning is assessed by service staff based on materials, electrical protection, wastewater handling, and any existing faults; it is not only handed over because residents are unfamiliar with the work.

Carry out approved filter and exterior maintenance according to the manual, and leave internal issues and faults to the service personnel. Cleaning does not mean all abnormalities are fixed or that health is guaranteed.
