Still smell after AC cleaning? Record it, follow up, and methods you should not try
Contents
If there is still a smell after AC cleaning, first note whether it was already there before cleaning, when it appears, and whether it only happens when the unit is on, then contact the service provider for follow-up. Do not spray white vinegar or chemicals into the unit, or place baking soda at the air outlet; if there is a burning smell, smoke, or the breaker trips, stop using it first.
Why do odours occur?
The odour may be related to dirt buildup inside the unit, drainage conditions, the surrounding environment or other causes, and smell alone cannot identify a specific germ. For split units in cooling mode, condensate mainly forms on the indoor evaporator side and should not be confused with the outdoor condenser.
First organize the changes before and after cleaning
Keep the service date, completed items, odour pattern and photos, and explain them to the service provider. Do not dismantle the unit yourself, insert a vacuum cleaner into it, or spray extra cleaning agent, as this may affect the components and make it harder to identify the cause.
White vinegar and baking soda are not a universal in-unit deodorising method
Do not spray white vinegar or any other liquid into the appliance, and do not put powder at the air outlet and let the airflow carry it inside. "Natural" does not mean suitable for metal, filter media, or electronic controls. Do not mix cleaning products or use fragrance to cover a persistent odour.
The importance of regular maintenance
Maintain the filter according to the manual and usage conditions. Internal cleaning and drainage issues should be assessed separately; there is no rule such as once every three months or once a year that applies to all models. If the odour has not been identified, do not rely on repeated cleaning instead of inspection.
Seek help from a professional team
On follow-up visits, first confirm the original problem and the scope of the current service, then let suitable staff assess whether cleaning follow-up or separate repairs are needed. Cleaning and maintenance do not mean that any new or existing fault will be fixed for free, and we do not promise that all odours will disappear at once.
Follow-up should record changes before and after, stop using any equipment showing dangerous signs, explain the situation to the service provider, and then handle it according to the inspection result. Do not add chemicals or dismantle and wash it yourself; if you feel unwell, seek medical advice separately.
