Recurring rashes in young children: medical care and AC environment checks should be kept separate

If a young child has recurring rashes or itching, parents should explain the symptoms and changes to a healthcare professional. You cannot rule out a few factors and then conclude on your own that mould in the air conditioner is the cause. This article only discusses equipment and environmental observations; it does not provide a diagnosis of skin disease, and it does not recommend changing medication on your own or using machine cleaning as a substitute for treatment.
Record two sets of different information
For health concerns, symptoms should be recorded according to medical needs; for equipment, note the model, odour, water leakage, stains and maintenance condition. Having both at the same time does not mean a causal link has been established, and a child's reaction cannot be used to infer the microbial level inside the unit.
Find the source of the moisture problem
If you see dampness or suspected mould stains, in addition to cleaning the surface, you also need to assess where the moisture is coming from. Standing water, drainage, insulation or other leakage problems in the room cannot all be solved by AC cleaning; do not call every black stain mould.
Avoid spraying chemicals or dismantling the unit yourself
Factory information notes that store-bought cleaners may affect internal materials and cause water leakage. Users should handle only the filters that their model manual permits, and should not spray products onto coils, fan wheels or circuitry, or reach into the unit just to inspect dirt. If professional cleaning is needed, first confirm the parts, protection and restoration checks; cleaning does not guarantee removal of all household allergens or cure a rash, and symptoms in young children should still be followed up according to medical advice.
