AC TIPS & ADVICE

Do anti-mould stickers for air conditioners work? Product claims do not mean the inside of the unit is already clean

Contents

Anti-mould patches on the market may use different ingredients and release methods. Without specific product information, it is not possible to determine what chemicals they contain, which parts they can reach, or how effective they are inside a running AC unit.

First check traceable product information

The stated application area, ingredients, safety notes, validity period and test conditions must all be checked. A laboratory test on one type of surface does not mean it will work on all air conditioners or in actual rooms.

Words such as natural, slow-release or antibacterial do not replace assessment of inhalation exposure and material compatibility. Do not assume a product is suitable for homes with sensitive occupants just because its marketing sounds scientific.

A smell does not mean the dirt has been removed

A fragrance may change how something smells, but it does not prove that dirt has been removed from the blower wheel, heat exchanger, or drain pan. If there is persistent mould smell, water leakage, or visible dirt, the source should be assessed.

Cleaning also does not guarantee that all odours are caused by the air conditioner. Drainage problems, wall seepage, and sources of indoor pollution may need to be handled separately.

The installation location must not affect airflow or safety

Without confirmation from the manufacturer and product information, do not place adhesive patches inside the unit or stick them near sensors, the filter or the fan wheel. Avoid loosening and being drawn in, blocking airflow or affecting drainage.

If there is an irritating smell, physical discomfort, or abnormal equipment behaviour, stop using it and seek help as needed. Do not add other chemicals inside the unit to try to improve performance.

Separate cleaning from health claims

Handle the washable dust filter according to the manufacturer’s instructions, and let the service provider assess deep grime. Without measured data, do not list fixed anti-mould percentages, effective months, or germ-removal rates.

Cleaning is not medical treatment; if discomfort persists, seek medical advice. When making an enquiry, please explain the products used and the equipment condition so the service staff are aware of any residue.

Original manufacturer functions and operation apply only to the corresponding model; please refer to your own unit's manual.
