If the AC has an auto-clean function, do you still need to clean it?

Auto-cleaning, internal drying, anti-mould and filter reminders may sound similar, but the steps are not necessarily the same. Check what your model actually does; do not assume all dirt will disappear just because it says CLEAN.
First check whether the function is drying, cleaning or a reminder
Some functions continue running after cooling stops to remove moisture inside the unit; some models also have filter cleaning or reminder functions. Their purpose and the parts involved are different, and the name cannot replace the original manufacturer's description of the function scope.
So if the fan keeps running after shutdown, it may be related to a manufacturer-specified function, but you should not treat every continuous operation as normal. If it is accompanied by a fault light, burning smell or unusual noise, stop using it and enquire first.
Automatic mode does not necessarily cover the fan wheel, coil and drainage
Even if a certain model can handle the filter, that does not automatically mean the blower wheel, drain area and the entire drainage path have been cleaned. Maintenance of other parts should be confirmed according to the original manufacturer's instructions and the unit’s condition; do not treat an automatic function as a promise of no maintenance for the whole unit.
Deep cleaning is also different from routine filter maintenance. If there is a persistent mouldy smell, visible dust buildup, weak airflow or water dripping, the condition should be assessed by symptoms; do not ignore the problem just because the auto function was used once.
You still need to complete the user maintenance required by the manufacturer
Check whether there are removable parts, dust-collecting areas or special filter materials that need cleaning, and handle them according to your own manual. Not all parts can be washed with water, and cleaning spray should not be sprayed directly into the unit as a substitute.
Resetting the maintenance reminder is not the same as completing the maintenance. First confirm the work required by the manufacturer; do not cancel the reminder instead of cleaning, or enter service settings or dismantle electrical parts just to clear the light.
Provide the service provider with both the functions and the symptoms
