Seasonal AC shutdown: complete shutdown, cleaning, and dust protection by model
Contents
When turning off an AC for the season, follow the long-term shutdown instructions for your own model. You cannot simply say that cutting power will damage the unit, and there is no fixed fan-running time that applies to all air conditioners. First distinguish between normal shutdown, any built-in drying function on the model, and the power-off requirement for cleaning.
First check the model and do not copy someone else’s settings
Check the manual for the long-term non-use, auto-clean or internal drying sections to confirm whether power must remain on, when the switch can be turned off, and the requirements before reuse. Not every unit has the same functions; do not keep a faulty unit running just to meet an online specified time.
Cleaning you can do yourself
Only remove and clean the dust filter and the outer surface that the manufacturer allows. Stop using the unit and let it dry completely before reinstalling it. For the interior, cleaning, disinfection spray, or fragrance products must not be used; if there is obvious dirt inside, dripping water, or an abnormal condition, arrange an inspection separately first.
Dust protection must not obstruct equipment operation
If covering is needed, first confirm the manufacturer's dust-protection requirements for idle storage, and note down the items to remove before restarting. Do not use sealing tape, cloth stuffing or self-wrapping to replace proper maintenance of the outdoor unit, and do not climb out of the window to carry out work. Remove and store remote-control batteries according to the manual as well.
How to check before reusing
From a safe position, confirm that the filter is properly installed, the airflow path is unobstructed, and visible dripping or damage is present or not. For equipment that has taken in water, tripped, has a burning smell or obvious unusual noise, do not switch it on and off repeatedly to test it; keep the model and pre-shutdown record, and have the service staff assess it first.
Autumn cleaning is not a discount or anti-mould promise
Whether cleaning is needed depends on dirt buildup, usage and existing faults; the fee and date are subject to the actual quotation and schedule. Proper shutdown does not mean there will definitely be no mould smell, dripping or equipment failure later, and cleaning does not replace fault repair.
