AC GUIDES

AC is very dusty after renovation: when to inspect and arrange cleaning

Contents

After renovation, a clean AC surface does not mean there is no dust inside; likewise, a paint smell indoors does not necessarily mean the AC is mouldy. First look at the project stage, whether the equipment has been running in a dusty environment, and the actual symptoms before arranging suitable work.

First distinguish whether the work is already completed or whether dust will still be generated

If drilling, sanding and cutting are still in progress, dust may build up again even after cleaning. You may first coordinate with the contractor on the main dust-producing works, site cleaning and protection arrangements, then confirm the suitable cleaning time with the service provider.

Do not ignore the risk of a large amount of dust entering the equipment just to keep workers cool. Whether to stop use, how to protect it, and when to resume should be arranged according to the model and site conditions; do not seal plastic film over the air inlet or outlet while the unit is running.

What dust clues can be observed safely?

Without climbing or disassembling the unit, check whether there is visible dust on the casing, air outlet and any filters the manufacturer allows users to handle. Weak airflow, odour or dripping water are also worth reporting, but a single symptom cannot confirm which part dust has entered.

Cleaning the dust filter only handles one layer. Whether the fan wheel, coil and drain area inside the unit need attention should be assessed by the service staff; do not spray cleaner or insert a vacuum cleaner into the unit and treat that as a complete deep clean.

Paint smell and mould smell require different assessment.

The smell of renovation materials, furniture and the room environment may be carried by the AC. Cleaning the AC cannot guarantee removal of all renovation smells. Deal with the source of pollution and ventilate properly at the same time; do not cover up the problem with fragrance or lower temperatures.

If there is a burning smell, smoke, abnormal scraping noise, tripping, or water near electrical parts, stop using it first. These are not ordinary issues that can be handled by a single cleaning after renovation, and they should not be dismissed as normal just because the renovation was recent.

Only by stating the work and any modifications can the service scope be confirmed.

Please advise whether there was any unit relocation, drainage pipe change, false ceiling enclosure or power supply replacement, and provide the completion time and full view of the equipment. Leaking or failure to start after renovation may also be related to construction changes, and cannot be fully attributed to dirt.

Enquire about TimesYou may also provide the period of use, dust-generating processes, and any existing issues. Cleaning, drainage adjustment, electrical work, and installation checks must be confirmed separately; keep the work record first, then decide the next step based on the on-site situation.

Common questions

If the renovation is not finished, would it be better to clean it once first?

It depends on whether more dust-generating work will still be carried out afterwards. You can first coordinate protection and cleaning arrangements, then confirm the cleaning time; cleaning first does not mean it will not be exposed to dust again later.

Can AC cleaning guarantee removal of all renovation odours?

No. Odours may come from materials, furniture and room conditions, so the source and ventilation should be addressed. AC cleaning only covers the confirmed equipment scope and does not guarantee removal of all renovation odours.

Original manufacturer functions and operation apply only to the corresponding model; please refer to your own unit's manual. For fixed electrical installations, inspection should be arranged by a registered electrical contractor.
