Damaged dust filter: replace according to the model, do not patch it casually
Contents
A hole in the dust filter or a deformed frame may let dust bypass the intended filtration area. This is different from simple dirt buildup; washing will not fix a hole, and cutting another material to the same size does not make it a compatible filter.
First check the original parts and cleaning method
Check the filter model, size, fixing method and whether it is washable in the unit’s manual or distributor materials. Some dedicated filter cartridges need replacement rather than soaking and washing.
Parts may only be removed if they are permitted by the manufacturer and can be accessed safely, and power must first be switched off according to the instructions. Areas at height, enclosed by cabinets or requiring the fixed casing to be removed should not be forced.
Do not patch torn mesh with tape at random
General tape, mesh or filter cotton may not meet the requirements for temperature resistance, fixation and airflow, and may come loose or increase resistance. Unless confirmed by the manufacturer, it is not recommended to use generic online patching methods.
Do not keep removing a damaged filter and leaving it out long term, and do not stack thick filter cotton in an attempt to improve filtration. Model compatibility matters more than hole density alone.
Cleaning and Replacement Cycle Based on Condition
Clean washable filters by removing dirt according to the manufacturer’s method, dry them thoroughly, then reinstall them properly, including the frame. There is no universal six-month, one-year or two-year mandatory replacement period for all air conditioners.
If the damage is hard to see or the model number cannot be found, you can take a photo from a safe position for enquiry. Odour, weak airflow or lack of cooling may have other causes, so you cannot assume the filter is broken based on symptoms alone.
Situations requiring inspection
If foreign objects are caught inside, there is obvious rubbing noise, debris falls out, water leakage is close to electrical appliances, there is a burning smell or the breaker trips, stop using the equipment and arrange an inspection. Do not reach in to look for broken pieces inside the unit.
Replacing only the filter is not the same as cleaning the fan drum or heat exchanger, and it does not guarantee that all air quality issues will be solved. Service scope, parts, and cleaning quotation should be confirmed separately.
