AC TIPS & ADVICE

The air conditioner is too cold or too warm, or keeps cooling continuously: do not move the temperature sensor wire yourself

Contents

AC temperature adjustment is affected by the set temperature, return air, room load, control design and the condition of the components. Not every case of nonstop cooling or hot-and-cold fluctuations can be blamed on a shifted sensor wire, and there is no evidence that nine out of ten problems can be solved by cleaning alone.

Distinguish normal adjustment from obvious abnormality.

Fixed-speed start-stop operation, inverter adjustment, and airflow changes in some modes may feel different in temperature. First check the cooling, fan, sleep, timer and energy-saving settings, and use the unit according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Record whether the room really cannot cool down, becomes too cold, or repeatedly stops and starts in short intervals. The temperature set on the remote control and the reading from a thermometer at a certain spot are not necessarily the same measurement point.

The sensor is not a wire that can be reset at will

The type, position and fixing method of the sensor vary by model. Do not pull out, bend, clean or move the temperature sensor wire based on online photos, and do not use ice or a heat source to test its response.

The control board, wiring, power supply, airflow, and cooling system may all need inspection. Symptoms alone, or the order in which a problem appears after cleaning, cannot confirm the faulty part or responsibility.

Dirt buildup can have an effect, but cleaning is not a universal fix

Dust buildup on the filter or heat-exchange parts may affect airflow and heat exchange; cleaning can be part of the solution. If a sensor, control or other part is faulty, cleaning will not fix it.

If there is icing, a burning smell, smoke, a tripped breaker, moisture on electrical parts or abnormal rubbing noise, stop using the unit. Do not repeatedly switch it on and off or set it to the lowest temperature for test operation.

Enquire about TimesProvide verifiable information

Provide the brand and model, mode, set temperature, time of occurrence, fault light and recent work records. Note any changes already present during normal use, and do not deliberately recreate dangerous conditions just to record video.

Inspection will determine whether cleaning or repair is needed, then the quote will be confirmed. Repairs do not include maintenance, and the cleaning 90-day or one-year installation warranty does not automatically apply to thermostat components.

Reference sources and applicable scope

This article provides a preliminary guide only and does not replace an on-site diagnosis. Original manufacturer functions and operation apply only to the corresponding model; please refer to your own unit's manual. For fixed electrical installations, inspection should be arranged by a registered electrical contractor.
