How long should you run the air conditioner before resting: use it as needed, and do not switch it on and off frequently
Contents
Equipment may run as needed under the manufacturer's specified conditions; there is no universal rule that every AC must rest after a certain number of hours. This does not mean abnormal conditions can be ignored, and it is not an encouragement to leave the unit on all day when nobody is using it.
Long operating hours should be assessed based on actual conditions
The equipment’s suitable environment, heat dissipation, maintenance, and load all affect operation. A room continually absorbing heat, and poor cooling caused by equipment failure, are two different situations.
You may observe whether windows and doors, sunlight, the number of occupants and the settings have changed. Even if the sound changes, you cannot assume from hearing alone that the compressor is overloaded or needs replacement.
Do not use repeated switching on and off instead of temperature control
Set a comfortable temperature, timer or energy-saving function according to the manufacturer's instructions, and switch off when leaving the room or when cooling is not needed. Restarting should follow the protection arrangement of your specific model, not a fixed number of seconds.
Setting the temperature to the lowest level does not usually mean the room will become comfortable faster. Energy saving should be judged by comparing usage period, capacity, energy label and environment, not just the number of times it is switched on and off.
Abnormal operation is not something that can be solved by simply resting it.
If icing, repeated switching on and off, noticeably weaker airflow, or failure to cool persists, record it and identify the cause. If there is a burning smell, smoke, tripping, water leakage near electrical parts, or abnormal friction noise, stop using the equipment.
Do not use switching it off for a while and trying again as a long-term solution, and do not add refrigerant yourself, adjust sensors or disable protective devices.
Cleaning and daily use serve different purposes
Handle washable dust filters according to the manufacturer’s instructions and the actual level of dirt. Deep grime and mechanical issues require different services. Maintenance does not guarantee that faults will never occur, and there is no fixed electricity-saving percentage.
If you need an enquiry, provide your approximate daily usage hours, equipment model, room use and any abnormal symptoms. Choose cleaning or inspection as needed; do not assume repair is required just because the unit has been running for a long time.

This article provides a preliminary guide only and does not replace an on-site diagnosis. Original manufacturer functions and operation apply only to the corresponding model; please refer to your own unit's manual. For fixed electrical installations, inspection should be arranged by a registered electrical contractor.
