Which Parts of an AC Can Be Cleaned? Indoor Filters, Outdoor Unit and Remote Control
Contents
AC cleaning must be divided into the indoor filter, internal components, outdoor unit and remote control; do not dismantle and wash everything with the same set of tools. Residents should only handle the parts allowed by the manual and safe to touch, while internal parts, high outdoor positions and electrical areas should be assessed by suitable personnel.

Disconnect the power
Before maintenance, switch off the unit and cut the power according to the manual. If you are unsure how to proceed, ask first; turning off the switch does not mean you may touch internal circuitry or remove fixed parts.
Remove the filter
Different models have different filter locations and whether they can be removed or washed. Follow the manual. Do not pull hard, do not dismantle the casing, and do not soak all filter materials in soapy water.
Clean the Filter Screen
Filters that may be cleaned should be dried and restored according to the original manufacturer's instructions; if they cannot be reinstalled or the electrical area becomes damp, stop using the unit and do not try to dry it by switching it on.
Do not brush wash the heat-exchange parts inside the unit
When a split unit is cooling, the indoor component commonly used is the evaporator, which is different from the outdoor condenser; cleaning should be handled according to the model. Residents should not insert brushes, vacuum cleaners, or liquids behind the filter or into the blower wheel area.
Check the water tray and drain pipe
The drain pan collects condensate and then channels it away through the piping. The location and timing of any dripping can be recorded, and the pan or piping should not be removed or reconnected by yourself.
Blockage, connection issues or water leakage will be assessed by the service technician. Residents should not try to clear the pipe with a long brush, flush water through it or use chemicals. Whether the pipe section is included in the cleaning must be confirmed first.
Install the filter and close the panel
Make sure the filter is completely dry before reinstalling it on the air conditioner;
Close the AC panel and make sure the filter and other parts are fixed in place.

First confirm whether it can be safely accessed.
The outdoor unit location, height, support, and access method should be explained first, so staff can assess it. Do not lean out of the window, climb, or loosen fixing parts. Indoor cleaning does not mean all outdoor work is included.
Do not dismantle the casing or electrical controls yourself
Do not look for screws and dismantle the outdoor unit casing yourself, and do not open the wiring box. Power supply, moving parts, and working at height all carry risks; switching off power does not replace assessment by the proper person.
Clean the Heat Exchanger and Fan
Cleaning the outdoor condenser and fan should be arranged by suitable personnel according to the model. Residents should not reach in with a brush, vacuum cleaner, wet cloth, or hose, and should not dismantle the fan themselves.
Inspect and clean the drain outlet
Water coming from the outdoor unit may be related to the model, operating mode, or other conditions, and should not automatically be treated as normal condensation or a blockage. Record when the water appears and let the service staff judge; do not use a long brush to clear the outlet.
Install the casing and secure the screws
The casing, fixing and testing will be handled by the service staff. Please confirm in advance whether cleaning includes drainage, support or other repairs; do not reinstall the outdoor unit yourself.
Clean the Remote Control
For the remote control, only perform surface care permitted by the manufacturer; do not spray liquids into the buttons or battery compartment. Cleaning does not repair circuit or reception problems.
Do not open the remote control circuit
Replace and handle batteries according to the manual; do not pry open the casing with a screwdriver to clean the inside. If the battery leaks, the contacts are damaged or it cannot operate normally, stop using it first and consult the original manufacturer or suitable personnel.
Clean the Buttons and Housing
Use a suitable dry or slightly damp cloth on surfaces that may be wiped according to the manual, and do not casually pour alcohol, wet wipes, or spray liquid into the buttons. If liquid has entered the unit, do not put the battery back in to test whether it is dry.
