Using air conditioning during a Signal No. 10: when to stop using it and the principle of staying indoors
Contents
During a Signal No. 10, you cannot rely on the warning number alone to guarantee that air conditioning is safe to use, and switching off the air conditioner will not keep other appliances running during a power outage. Stay in a safe indoor place first. If the unit may have taken in water, become loose, or has an abnormal power supply, stop using it and seek help.
Which abnormalities mean you should not keep testing the unit?
If water is found near sockets, or has entered the air conditioner or power supply area, or if there is a burning smell, tripping, strong vibration or a foreign-object sound, do not repeatedly switch the unit on and off while trying to confirm the cause. Do not touch wet switches, wires or damaged parts; only stop the unit in a way that is appropriate if the location is dry, safe and does not involve risk.
Do not go outside the window to inspect or wrap the unit.
Do not open a window and lean out to check brackets, secure the outdoor unit, add a rain cover, or remove clutter, and do not arrange non-urgent exterior-wall work during a storm. If repair is needed, contact the service provider first; actual attendance and work depend on weather, traffic, and safety conditions.
Do not open windows after shutdown just for ventilation if it creates a risk.
Switching off the AC does not mean you should open windows in strong wind to create airflow. Follow official typhoon safety instructions and stay in a safe place. Other appliances must also be operated according to their own power supply and usage requirements; equipment without backup power cannot be guaranteed to stay on just because one AC unit is turned off.
Arrange an inspection once the weather improves
From a safe indoor position, record any visible damage, water ingress and unusual noise, and provide the model and time of occurrence. For equipment that has taken in water or has an electrical abnormality, do not restart it just because the surface is dry; have the appropriate personnel inspect it before deciding whether it can be used, repaired or cleaned.
Handle maintenance and storm damage separately
Removing dirt does not repair material, support or electrical problems caused by wind and rain. Quotation and warranty coverage are confirmed according to the actual inspection and the relevant terms. We do not promise that one cleaning after a storm will remove all risks.
