How to prevent dirt buildup inside an air conditioner

Contents

In the hot summer months, air conditioners are an important part of daily life. If the inside of an air conditioner is not cleaned regularly, dirt and mould can build up and affect indoor air circulation. This article looks at how to clean the inside of an air conditioner to maintain a good environment for everyday use.

Clean the Air Conditioner Filter

Maintain the filter according to the manufacturer’s instructions and the level of dust, and confirm which parts can be washed and which must be replaced. Do not spray chemicals on all filter materials or use hot water on everything just to prevent bacteria.

Clean the inside of the AC unit regularly

If there are visible stains or odours inside, first find the source, then confirm the cleaning and drainage treatment method; cleaning is not a process that removes all microorganisms or guarantees health.

Control indoor humidity

A hygrometer can help observe changes in humidity, but a single humidity reading cannot prove the inside of the unit is sterile. Ventilation must also consider outdoor humidity; leakage, drainage or insulation problems should be addressed at the source, not just by opening windows or lowering the air-conditioning setting.

Do not spray antibacterial products into the unit yourself.

A product label stating antibacterial does not mean it is suitable for air conditioning units, coated surfaces, or electrical areas. Residents should not spray chemicals, apply anti-mould coatings, or mix cleaning agents themselves; products used in service must also be checked for purpose, compatibility and safety information.

Find professional help

Enquire about TimesPlease explain the model, where the dampness and odour are coming from, and whether there is any water leakage, so staff can identify whether cleaning, drainage, insulation, or other repair is needed.

The purpose of maintenance is to address dirt buildup and equipment issues; it does not guarantee disease prevention or permanent mould removal. Do not use fragrance or antibacterial advertising to cover up an undisclosed source of dampness.
