What is the south return wet spell?
“Return of the south” refers to the weather phenomenon in South China each spring when temperatures gradually rise and humidity increases. This region has a typical maritime subtropical monsoon climate. Between 3 and 4 each year, warm and moist air from the South China Sea meets cold air from the north of mainland China to form a stationary front, causing changeable weather, high humidity, and occasional drizzle or fog in South China.
The damp weather during the south return wet spell can cause seepage on walls or floors in some buildings, and clothes, leather and wooden items are also prone to mould. You may think the AC will make the room drier, but when you switch it on, there may be a musty smell.
