How to prevent leakage and fire hazards in air conditioners

Contents

If the air conditioner trips the breaker, smells burnt, emits smoke, has damaged wiring, or water is close to electrical parts, stop using it first and arrange for suitable personnel to handle it; do not repeatedly restart it, disconnect wiring or repair it yourself. The following distinguishes daily precautions from electrical work, and does not treat cleaning as an electrical safety inspection.

Preventing AC electrical leakage: proper grounding protection

Grounding is part of electrical protection, but it does not mean faults cannot happen. Inspection and repair of grounding, wiring, and protective devices should be handled by a suitable registered electrical worker; residents should not open junction boxes, measure live parts, or replace the earth wire themselves.

Regularly inspect the air-conditioning wiring

Only look for damaged, burnt, or deformed wires or plugs from a safe and visible position; if anything abnormal is found, stop using it and arrange an inspection. Do not replace wires, modify sockets, or use a larger fuse to deal with repeated tripping.

Use a qualified power socket

The power supply method and load for air conditioning must be confirmed according to the model and installation conditions. Do not use an extension board or adapter plug as a substitute for a proper arrangement, and do not share it arbitrarily with other appliances. If there are questions about the socket, circuit or protection device, have it assessed by qualified personnel.

Prevent fire hazards from AC units by keeping them away from flammable items

Install the AC away from flammable materials to reduce the risk of fire. Also make sure there is enough ventilation space around the unit so heat can dissipate properly.

Regular cleaning

Handle the dust filter that residents are allowed to remove and wash according to the manual; internal parts, electrical controls and high-level outdoor units should be cleaned by suitable personnel. Do not spray water onto sockets, wiring or the inside of the unit; cleaning does not mean electrical or overheating faults have been ruled out.

Timely maintenance and servicing

If you notice any abnormality in the AC, such as unusual noise or smell, stop using it immediately and contact a professional technician for inspection and repair. Do not attempt to repair it yourself, as this may cause more serious damage.

Find professional help

Electrical inspection is different from general cleaning in scope. Before booking, explain the fault and installation situation, and confirm that the right personnel will handle the job. Do not assume that because a company provides AC cleaning, any electrical work is included.

Residents may record symptoms and visible exterior issues from a safe position; earthing, power supply and internal faults should be checked by suitable staff. If there is already an abnormality, stop using the unit first; do not disconnect wiring yourself, and do not use cleaning or repeated restarting as a substitute for repair.
