Common Air Conditioner Maintenance Questions: Filters, Faults and Service Boundaries
Contents
For daily AC maintenance, first follow the instructions for your own model. User-cleanable filters and internal cleaning are not the same as component repair. The following explains the boundary of handling based on actual issues; not all abnormalities are caused by dirt, and no fixed cleaning frequency is applied to every unit.
How often to clean the dust filter
Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations, and then pay attention to operating hours and dust buildup. First distinguish between washable dust filters and special filter materials; do not soak non-washable filter materials. After cleaning, dry and reinstall thoroughly as instructed, and replace damaged items or specified consumables as required.
Does poor cooling mean refrigerant must be added?
No. Refrigerant circulates in a sealed system and is not fuel that is used up every year. Unless there is leakage or refrigerant-related repair is needed, routine top-up is generally not required. If cooling is insufficient, check settings, airflow, heat dissipation and equipment faults separately; do not dismantle pipes, measure pressure or add refrigerant yourself.
How should dripping, unusual noise or a burning smell be handled?
Stop using it first and record the symptoms, and keep water away from electrical appliances or items. Do not reach into the fan blades, adjust the bracket angle, remove the drain pipe or keep switching the power on and off to test. If there is a burning smell, tripping, icing or obvious abnormality, arrange an inspection first; cleaning does not necessarily fix it.
Does AC cleaning always require dismantling the whole unit?
Depending on the model, installation and actual service scope. Before quoting, please ask clearly which parts will be cleaned, whether the outdoor condenser is included, accessible areas and surrounding protection; do not assume a window, split or deep-clean service name means one fixed dismantling method.
Cleaning time required and acceptance after completion
Working time depends on the level of dirt, quantity, protection and dismantling conditions, and cannot guarantee every site within a single hour count. After completion, we will confirm that parts are installed properly, test operation and drainage, and record any pre-existing faults not handled. Cleaning does not guarantee that odour, water leakage or noise will be eliminated permanently.
How to read the energy grade
A Hong Kong energy label at grade 1 represents higher energy efficiency; a bigger number does not mean greater energy savings. When comparing labels with similar cooling capacity and actual usage conditions, do not rely only on the terms inverter, split type or window type to promise a certain amount of electricity savings.
Are factory maintenance and cleaning maintenance the same?
Different. Original equipment, installation, cleaning, and repair each have their own scope and terms, so they should be confirmed separately before booking. Keep the model, receipt, and service record; do not assume the warranty wording in the quotation means all parts, components, or existing problems will be handled free of charge.
