Before shutdown: fan drying is not the same as cleaning

Contents

Turning on fan mode before shutting down does not mean the inside is clean or completely dry, and there is no universal two-hour, four-hour or six-hour standard for all models. Follow the manual for shutdown procedures; if there is a smell or leakage, find the cause first, and do not use a cover to hide the problem.

Blowing does not mean the entire unit is completely dry

Blowing air can help some moisture evaporate, but this depends on the part and model. Blowing mode is not a method for removing built-up dirt, and a dry air outlet does not prove that the drain tray, heat exchanger and interior are all dry.

If there is a smell after shutdown, find the source first

A smell after shutdown may involve residual dirt, dampness, drainage issues or other sources. Without testing, it is not possible to determine which bacteria are involved, whether anaerobic fermentation is occurring, or which gases are being released, and a smell alone cannot be used to infer that the refrigerant pipe has corroded.

Blowing, drying and cleaning each have their own purpose

Blowing air can help some moisture evaporate, but different parts and models vary; blow mode is not a way to remove built-up dirt, and a dry air outlet does not mean the drain tray, heat exchanger and interior are all dry. The method, drying procedure and whether cleaning is needed must be confirmed according to the model and actual condition.

There is no single method that can guarantee anti-mould results. Fan run time, cleaning method and drainage checks should be confirmed separately; existing issues should not be left until the next season.

Seek help from a professional team

If there is a smell, drainage issue or visible staining before shutdown, you can provide the model and photos to arrange an inspection and confirm the scope of cleaning, repair and drying. We do not promise special protection just because it is autumn, and we do not guarantee steam is suitable for all models or that there will be no dripping water next year.

Frequently asked questions

Q1: Before storing an air conditioner for winter, if I want to dry it myself, how long should I run fan mode?

Follow the model manual; there is no universal humidity level or fan duration that guarantees the inside is fully dry. Do not use extra heat sources, chemicals, or DIY dismantling to speed up drying; remove any suitable dust cover before use.

If there are stains in the drip tray after shutdown, can I rinse them away myself?

Do not dismantle the unit yourself to rinse with water, or use acid, bleach, or drain cleaners. The material and source of the stain must be checked first; it cannot be confirmed from appearance alone whether it is mineral deposit, oil sludge, or biofilm.

Q3: Is it better for the unit to clean the air conditioner before sealing it for storage, or to wait until before turning it on next summer?

There is no best month that applies to all machines. Arrange it according to unit condition, usage plans and the manufacturer's requirements; faults should not wait until the season changes, and it is also not assumed that cleaning one season later means corrosion or damage has already occurred.
