Dual-split split-type air conditioning: matching, simultaneous use and installation checks
Contents
A dual-split setup usually means one outdoor unit connected to two indoor units. Whether it is suitable depends on the original manufacturer-approved pairing, the actual load and simultaneous use. Fewer outdoor units do not necessarily mean lower total power consumption, and they do not guarantee that indoor units can be added freely later.
First confirm the model and matching table.
Ask for a quotation that lists the full model numbers of the indoor and outdoor units and the original matching details, and clearly explains the conditions for simultaneous operation and single-unit use. Do not judge the overall capacity by simply adding the rated horsepower, and do not assume that installing one unit first and adding another later will not require changes to the whole system.
Explain the load for the two rooms separately
Provide each room’s size, sunlight, intended use, door position and habits for running units at the same time so the installer can assess it. Different usage patterns in two rooms cannot be directly converted into a fixed savings figure, and the unit price and monthly bill must also be compared separately.
Outdoor location is not just about whether it can fit
Check the outdoor unit size, support, heat dissipation space, copper piping route, drainage and future maintenance access. The height and position of the indoor unit should follow the model and site requirements; do not use one universal height or a rule about being near a window instead of proper design.
Put the power supply and repair arrangements in writing
Confirm whether power supply, piping, additional materials, and safe working arrangements are included. Work involving fixed electrical installations must be handled by qualified persons in line with the relevant requirements. Also ask about restrictions on using and servicing one area when another unit has an issue, and do not assume a system fault is completely isolated from other areas.
Compare the full cost and information
Keep the model, energy data, full installation quotation and warranty terms, then compare them with two separate units on the same basis. Confirm cleaning and repairs separately, and do not assume that a dual-split or inverter model will be quieter, maintenance-free, or pay for itself within a fixed number of years.
