Inverter and non-inverter air conditioners: control method, model and total cost
Contents
Inverter and non-inverter refer to the control method, while split and window refer to the unit configuration; the two cannot replace each other. When choosing a unit, compare models with similar cooling capacity, the Hong Kong energy label, and the total installation cost, rather than assuming that inverter alone guarantees lower power use, quieter operation, or better value.
Basic differences in inverter control
Inverter technology adjusts compressor speed to match the load; the actual control range and operating method depend on the model. You should not use the energy-saving result of one original factory model or one test batch as the savings percentage for all brands, rooms, or hours of use.
First compare cooling capacity with the label
Please state the room, sunlight exposure, usage, and hours of use, then select an appropriate cooling capacity before comparing energy labels. The listed power consumption is based on the relevant test conditions; actual household bills are also affected by settings, weather, and other appliances, and cannot be inferred directly from the model name.
Noise must be assessed under the test conditions
Compare the manufacturer's listed indoor and outdoor noise data, operating speeds and test conditions. The compressor, fan, mounting and surroundings must all be included in the actual assessment; inverter does not mean completely silent, and it cannot guarantee that every inverter model is quieter than every fixed-speed model.
Price and maintenance breakdown
Compare unit price, removal of old units, installation, piping, power supply and safe workmanship, and confirm parts, manufacturer warranty and future maintenance arrangements. Do not guess production cost to judge the selling price, and do not assume a more expensive model will definitely pay back within a fixed period.
Existing equipment to be handled according to condition
Record the abnormality, usage, and maintenance history, and first distinguish between dirt buildup, installation, and component issues. Cleaning will not turn a fixed-speed unit into an inverter unit, nor does it guarantee fixed energy savings or a longer lifespan. Replacement and repair should be compared based on inspection and a full quotation.
