Ducted split AC vs wall-mounted split AC: supply air and access needs
Contents
Split-type refers to separate indoor and outdoor units; ducted type refers to air being supplied through ductwork on the indoor side. Ducted systems can also be split systems, so they should not be treated as mutually exclusive from all "traditional split" systems.
Look at the airflow method, not just the appearance
A wall-mounted unit usually blows air directly into the room it is installed in; a ducted unit must be designed together with supply and return ducts, vents, and the unit itself. Whether it can serve multiple spaces and how zoning is controlled depends on the design.
Do not assume it is a whole-building central air-conditioning system just because it is hidden in the ceiling, and do not confuse a multi-split outdoor unit arrangement with ducted air distribution.
Ceiling space and access panels both need clearance
Space is needed for ducts, insulation, drainage, return air and unit maintenance. Before renovation, confirm the access opening location and whether dismantling and cleaning are feasible; do not rely only on a small hole where the filter can be seen.
Later cleaning or parts replacement may involve ceiling and site coordination. Do not assume hidden is better, and do not dismantle the ceiling to access equipment yourself.
Efficiency and comfort cannot be guaranteed by unit type
Cooling capacity, airflow, pipe resistance, zoned use and equipment efficiency all affect performance. A ducted system is not necessarily more energy-saving or quieter than a wall-mounted unit, and it does not guarantee the same temperature in every room.
The comparison should be based on similar load and actual model data, and should confirm the supply and return airflow and noise design rather than only whether the unit is concealed.
Cleaning the unit does not mean cleaning the entire duct system
The cleaning scope for commercial units must be confirmed according to the unit type and accessible parts; full ductwork, cooling towers or water system works should not be assumed to be included in the per-unit price.
Please provide the model, quantity, ceiling location and preferred downtime window; extra work will be quoted separately. Without confirmed details, we do not promise that all office units can be handled in the same way.

Reference sources and applicable scope
This article provides a preliminary guide only and does not replace an on-site diagnosis. Original manufacturer functions and operation apply only to the corresponding model; please refer to your own unit's manual. For fixed electrical installations, inspection should be arranged by a registered electrical contractor.
